Trip Planning

winterlake_12.jpgMost of our trips originate and end in Anchorage, Winterlake Lodge’s gateway city. Most guests overnight in Anchorage the day prior to their trip departure but this is not necessary. As long as you arrive into the city prior to 4:00 p.m. in the summertime (and 1:00 p.m. in the winter) we can typically transport you to the lodge that day. In addition, if you need assistance in obtaining Anchorage hotels, please contact us for special Within the Wild rates!

Upon arrival into Anchorage, please feel free to call our office (907-274-2710) to confirm your travel plans. Most guests depart for Winterlake Lodge at either 8:00 a.m. for a morning departure or 4:00 p.m. for the afternoon departure.

On return, guests arrive back in town at approximately 10:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. If you need to catch flights that day, be sure to check with our office to make sure that you have plenty of time to make your connection.

Our air taxi partner, Rust’s Flying Service, can pick you up at the airport at local hotel. If you are driving a rental car, you are welcome to park it in the Rust’s Flying Service parking lot. The air taxi is located at Lake Hood, near the Ted Stevens International Airport. The air taxi telephone number is 907-243-1595.

It is advisable to arrive at the air taxi at least 30 minutes prior to your flight departure. When you make a reservation with our office or through your travel advisor, you are issued travel documents upon your final payment for your trip. These documents contain vouchers for your roundtrip flights and for your lodging. Provide a copy of the flight voucher to the air taxi agent.

If you have been traveling with excessive luggage, it is possible to store luggage at the air taxi during the time you are staying with us. Please travel light out to the lodges! The air taxi allows 50 pounds of baggage per person.
